Beluga Whale Post Earrings
April 14, 2013
I'd like to give you a behind the scenes peek at my newest item, my sterling silver beluga whale post earrings. I started out by researching images of whales that I liked and reading about different types of whales, settling on the beluga and the blue whale. I found out that beluga whales are kind of badass; they don't have a dorsal fin so they can swim around under the arctic ice (like an oceanic spy, I love spies!), and they can break through ice up to three inches thick. Cool, right?

After sketching out some adorable whales, I did a little tweaking in Photoshop and printed out my pattern on removable label paper. Then I sawed out the whales, filed, and soldered them to the posts. After some polishing, here we are. Adorable tiny whales for your ears!

I had a lot of fun photographing these on beautiful handmade Aizome Chiyogami origami paper and some hand dyed silk ribbon.
I hope you enjoyed this little peak into my design process! You can find these cuties listed in my Etsy shop.
♥,
Ashley
